Welcome to the Illinois DUI Pages Website. The Illinois DUI Pages Website was developed by the Institute for Legal, Legislative and Policy Studies and the Web Services Office at the University of Illinois Springfield working in partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation/Division of Traffic Safety.

Approximately 30,000 people nationally die every year in traffic crashes. Traffic fatalities are the number one cause of death for all age groups between 4 and 34. In 2009, 911 people lost their lives in Illinois due to traffic crashes. Of those, 319, or about 35%, were alcohol related (0.08 or above). 

Impaired driving is a threat to public safety and a difficult challenge to solve. General deterrence, enforcement, prosecution or treatment alone is not likely to have much impact on rates of impaired driving. Substantial progress will require a more systemic approach involving the attention of numerous professionals working in the various components of the criminal justice system, including legislation, enforcement, prosecution, adjudication, criminal and administrative sanctions and treatment.
